Examples and worksheets were created for this guide. Adapt them to your actual background.
1. Describe an ordinary working week
Choose five recurring tasks. What do you do yourself, who do you help and which tools do you use? ’Follow up customer cases in a CRM’ communicates more than ’service-minded’.
Include education, projects and volunteering where relevant, with their context. Using SQL on a course is different from working as a data analyst.
2. Connect each task to a skill
Resolving customer questions can demonstrate communication and problem-solving. Keeping track of orders can demonstrate administration and follow-up. Choose examples you could explain in an interview.
This skills map helps you find search terms. It does not establish that you meet a new role’s requirements. Read the responsibilities and qualifications in each vacancy.
3. Compare two or three directions
Search related titles and compare the work itself. Customer service, order administration and customer service coordination may overlap, but employers use these titles differently.
Separate what you have already done, what you could learn and what is an explicit requirement. Then choose directions to explore alongside location and working arrangements.
Build your own search worksheet
Use the example below for three of your own tasks. Keep a concrete example behind each skill. The result will help both your job search and your CV.
- Three real tasks with their context.
- One skill and a concrete example for each task.
- Two or three possible directions to investigate.
- Preferred location and working arrangements, plus requirements to check in listings.
FICTIONAL EXAMPLE
From customer service to several search directions
Fictional example: Alex has handled customer questions and orders. These roles are research suggestions, not a claim of eligibility or an actual job match.
- Answers customer questions and follows up cases
- Communication and case handling → investigate customer service and support.
- Records and tracks orders in a CRM
- Administration and follow-up → investigate order administration.
- Coordinates questions with the sales team
- Collaboration and prioritization → investigate coordinating customer-service roles.
